At first glance it looks like many of the other glossy fashion magazines you see on newsstands and in bookstores coming out of New York, but StyleLine has one very important distinction, it is a true 100% made-in-Michigan product.
StyleLine is a monthly periodical that celebrates all facets of metro Detroit style, with particular emphasis on fashion, beauty and home design/entertaining. Each issue is packed with trendy inspirations from the Detroit area's chicest boutiques, upscale department and furniture stores, luxury malls and salons.
Relatively new on the Detroit scene, StyleLine was launched in 2008. That may make this particular mag the new read on the block, but it’s actually part of a long-standing publishing tradition in the area courtesy of Detroit Media Partnership.
According to StyleLine publisher, Dale Perry, “Detroit Media Partnership has been publishing newspapers, magazines and digital products for nearly 180 years -- since before Michigan was a state.”
In fact, you might recognize the names of some of their other publications like: Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, Michigan Senior Living, Homestyle, and Observer & Eccentric Newspapers.
StyleLine is exclusively available in metro Detroit and according to Perry is metro Detroit’s largest magazine, with 50,000 copies each month. While the publication has always been local, they’ve recently put an extra marketing emphasis on that component with stickers and inserts noting that the publication is a proud Michigan product.
When asked about the recent marketing emphasis Perry noted, “We’ve always been a ‘Made in Michigan’ product: Michigan models, Michigan stores, Michigan experts…We even use a Michigan printer. With so many dollars and jobs flowing out of the state, we thought it was important to let people know that we’re proudly supporting Michigan businesses.”
That commitment extends beyond the pages of the magazine as well. Detroit designers are working hard to get the city noticed on the international fashion scene, and Styleline is supporting them.
For example, the publication recently partnered with us on the creation of Style Sunday at the Buy Michigan Now Festival. That event featured the work of more than a dozen local designers as well as fashion shows spotlighting the tremendous and unique talents of
Cynthia LaMaide,
Joe Faris, and
Katerina Bocci.
StyleLine editor, Karen Buscemi, also serves on the executive committee of Fashion in Detroit, a bi-annual two-day style event created by local designer and Project Runway alum, Joe Faris, to put a fashion spotlight on Detroit and create a venue that fills the needs of many locally based designers and the Detroit fashion community.
