These days it is exciting to hear of a business that is surviving and thriving after ten years, let alone a quarter or half of a century. That’s what makes the news that First State Bank is celebrating its 92nd year so exciting!
Choosing not to rest on its laurels, the company is renewing its commitment to the community with a program entitled “Your Money. Your State. Your Hometown Bank.”
The underlying theme is to build awareness to shop local, bank local, and donate local. The campaign is designed to bring attention to the importance of spending Michigan-earned money with Michigan businesses to collectively strengthen our communities.
In conjunction with the October anniversary, each branch location embarked on a customer appreciation week that included locally-produced food and beverages, and a raffle. Locations also offered their customers the opportunity to join in the Buy Michigan Now
pledge and to take home a copy of our
Grocery Guide full of Michigan brands.
The second element of the campaign focuses on First State Bank's role in giving back to its neighbors with philanthropic and community involvement and encouraging customers to join them in the effort.
The two nonprofit organizations directly supported by the initiative are the Macomb County Food Bank and Toys for Tots. Macomb County Food Bank provides food for 55 neighborhood pantries in Macomb County. Hunger-related needs have escalated with unemployment and the Food Bank is in constant need of non-perishable donations. To help, First State is hosting a five-week collection that ends November 20th.
Each person who donates food is given an entry form for a chance to win a Made in Michigan gift basket. The basket includes Michigan-made wine, candy, dessert toppings, condiments, and a variety of other fun representations of our state’s best.
As the food collection ends, First State’s annual Toys for Tots drive will commence, and run through December 18th. Again, each person donating a new unwrapped toy will be given an entry form to win a Made in Michigan gift basket, one of which will be given away each week bank-wide.
With the new initiative nearing the halfway point, Marketing Director, Kathleen Zenisek, reports that “customer reaction has been fantastic.”
Our congratulations and thanks goes to all of the hard-working people at First State Bank for their commitment to the communities they serve, and for helping more people learn about Buy Michigan Now.
