The Upper Peninsula was selected by USA Today readers across the country as the best destination in America to view fall foliage.The multi-week competition was held as part of USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for 2018. The U.P. and all its glory beat out 19 other locations around the country.
More than 429,000 readers submitted millions of ratings as part of the award, sharing their recent travel experiences. Mackinac Island was listed as No. 6 on the list, alongside tropical paradises like Maui and Oahu and picturesque getaways like Nantucket and Hilton Head.
Long Road Distillers, 537 Leonard St. NW, was named "Best Craft Specialty Spirits Distillery in the United States" as part of USA Today's 10Best awards for the second year in a row. The Grand Rapids distillery topped a list of 20 nominees from around the country over the course of the 4-week competition.

The northern Michigan city of Boyne City may be the next winner of Great American Main Street. It has been named a semi-finalist in the national competition. The 2019 Great American Main Street winners will be announced in March at the 2019 Main Street Now Conference in Seattle, Wash.
